Project Asylum United seeks to make a difference for women in Danish asylum camps by practicing soccer once a week.
Behind the project is the idea that physical activity and social interaction can have a positive impact on the women’s self esteem and their potential integration into the Danish society. We experience that a woman with a soccer ball under her arm feels powerful and gains confidence, which gives her the conditions to make better choices in life.
Through respect and understanding for the women’s situation we seek to improve their courage, faith and proudness to contribute to society.
Asylum United has participated in a number of soccer events around Denmark, including Folkemødet at Bornholm, Folkekirkens Nødhjælp’s Unequality Tournament (2018) and the Sensational Football Tournament (2013) at the Roskilde Music Festival. Each year we try to raise enough money and services to be able to invite all our asylum players and coaches to join even more events and tournaments around Denmark.
